So What is Advent Conspiracy?

What once was a time to celebrate the birth of our savior has somehow turned into a season of stress. This Christmas you have the opportunity to re-focus your family and our church back to the true story of Christmas. Through incorporating four intentions (defined below) throughout advent, together, we will live out the true anticipation of Christmas.

Advent Conspiracy Update 12/22/2009

We want to thank so many of you for participating in Advent Conspiracy. As you know Advent Conspiracy is a whole different way of approaching the Christmas season. It asks us to enter the story of Christmas in the same way our Savior did. Coming to give and to love and In Advent Conspiracy you enter the story of Christmas by worshipping our Savior, giving more by spending differently and loving those people around you in real and authentic ways. Practically this means this Christmas, you will get rid of a lot of the stress of the season, by focusing less on getting the right presents, and giving your presence in time, by using some of that time to give as Jesus did, by serving those in need, and as a result we get a new view of Jesus and so worship him fully. In order to help you we have asked you to buy two less presents and give the money to our advent project this year, which is building a house for a homeless family in Mexico. We are still around $4000 short, so any gift would be appreciated and accepted even after the 27th.

With Christmas just a few days away, we want to encourage you to carry this attitude of worship and gratitude throughout the end of the season. We have listed below some of the results of Advent Conspiracy. Thanks so much for all you have done and will be doing!

  • 130 people have signed up to participate in Advent Conspiracy
  • 34+ people going on Club Dust
  • 16 people serving at Community Services Agency Mtn View and Los Altos Toy Store.
  • 50 families and individuals serving at Family Giving Tree
  • 40+ people serving at the San Jose Family Shelter providing a Christmas Dinner.
  • 35-40 different people who participated in the Salvation Bell ringing.

This year on Christmas Eve we have a very special and unique evening planned so celebrate Advent Conspiracy by coming and bringing a friend. If you would like to bring a donation for the house building in Mexico we will have boxes available that night to drop it in. Here is the family for whom we will be building the house.

Worship fully – It starts with Jesus and ends with Jesus. Through adding family devotions to our regular routine as well as participating in special all-church gatherings, we will intentionally re-invite Jesus to become the center of our anticipation, or advent, of Christmas.

Spend differently –Spending less on presents and instead using that money to invest in serious needs in the world today, together as a church family, we are going to combine our resources and sacrifice a little to invest in much.

Give more –By scheduling time to love family and friends in memorable ways we will change our perspective on the pressures of the season. Family time and fellowship can be found in making hand-made Christmas cards, making a gift-wrapping assembly line, or just sitting together around the fireplace sipping hot chocolate. It can include all or just a couple of family members or you can invite additional guests to join you in your activities.

Love more – When Jesus loved, He loved in ways never before imagined. He cared for the outcast and He ate with the sinners. Serving as a church family we are going to proclaim the salvation of Jesus to those most in need by doing what Jesus did. We have four service project areas that we will use to help us put Jesus before ourselves. Matthew 25: -- “In as much as you have done this to the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me.”
