Child Evangalism
Fellowship

cef

Child Evangelism Fellowship is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish them in the local church for Christian living.  CEF was founded in 1937 by Rev. Jesse Overholtzer, who was 60 years old at the time.  At age 12, he had gone to his mom for counsel about salvation.  She told him, “Son, you are too young.”  It wasn’t until he was in college that he heard the Gospel and trusted Christ as Savior.  He was also greatly influenced by a quote from a sermon by Charles Spurgeon.  Spurgeon said, “A child of five, if properly instructed, can as truly believe and be regenerated as an adult.”  This ministry has grown into the largest evangelistic outreach to children in the world, now in over 150 countries and in every state in the U.S.

Our local chapter of CEF has been led for 20+ years by Jeanne Stenfort, a long-time member of FBCLA.  She works with a staff of dedicated leaders, three from our church: Myrna Curtis, Elsie Clementino and Gloria Carlson.  In addition to these, please remember to pray for other staff and teachers: Denise D., Darlene S., Christine W., Nadjy D., Gail P. and dozens of volunteers and hostesses for 5-Day Clubs and Good News Clubs.

Harold Stenfort, Jeanne’s husband, is on the national board of CEF.  Harold and Jeanne have 4 grown children: Laura, Ross, David and Peter.

17 Sunday  ~  Missionaries of the Week: Craig and Cynthia Davis, Paris (WorldVenture). The Davises had received 93% of their needed support and were ready to fly back to Paris. Now their 2008 support needs have been raised by $130 per month due mainly to the weak U.S. dollar. Pray for a quick response.

18 Monday  ~ Arab World Ministries. Please pray for Nationals in Ministry, which recruits and helps to fund indigenous believers to work among their fellow Arabs.

19 Tuesday  ~ CBA/NC aims at starting many more new churches, especially in new neighborhoods.  In most of the towns in Northern California, 95% or more of their population do not go to church.

20 Wednesday  ~  Terry Gibbs, Thailand (Wycliffe). Continue to pray for Terry as he teaches and works on translation projects in Thailand.  Rejoice with him as he comes back to the U.S. in May for his older daughter Jaime’s graduation from the Air Force Academy on May 28 and her marriage on May 30.

21 Thursday  ~  Rich and Sue Lackey, England (Arab World Ministries). Pray for AWM as they seek to partner with other missions in sharing new technologies for use of the worldwide web. This will be a tremendous milestone facilitating discipleship and church planting in the Arab world.

22 Friday  ~ Western Conservative Baptist Seminary, San Jose. Pray for the students and this seminary that provides ministerial training, mentoring by staff and faculty and the only Christian Marital and Family Therapy program in the Bay Area that leads to licensing.  Birthday – Tim Okken, Arizona/Kenya

23 Saturday  ~  Jay and Kathy Pinney, Montreal (Outreach Canada). Praise God for the biggest (700 people) attendance at a Church Planting Congress in Quebec. Jay was active in planning the conference and is enthusiastic about the results. Pray for him as he plans training events in Quebec. The training will be on evangelism, missional churches, disciple-making and leadership multiplication.
