Missionary of the Week

Jack Smith

smith

Jack has been with the Conservative Baptist International missions team in Uganda, East Africa since 1982.  During his first two terms there, he served as Director of the Kampala Evangelical School of Theology.  He was able to turn that position over to a Ugandan native, which freed him to become a professor at Makarere University, where he is able to share his faith with the students.  Jack says that last year was his richest year in ministry, and he has been praying for new dimensions of ministry.  Here is an overview:

     * Teaching and counseling 7 new Indian Medical students
      * Teaching and counseling pediatricians from the Faculty of Medicine
      * Graduating 95 Psychiatric Nurses at the National Mental Hospital
      * Mentoring 20 university students
      * Preaching to 350 men at the First Evangelical Church of Luzira Prison
     * Administrating a new evening educational program for the Faculty of Medicine
     * Creating a new course in leadership for an M.A. program in leadership and Human Resources

Jack loves Uganda and its people.  He calls it “a magical kingdom”.  When he has to be in the States, he likens it to an amusement park and is always happy to get back to Uganda.  He will probably plan to retire there and keep on teaching.  Pray for him because he has had cancer and, although he is clear now, has to have check-ups in the States every two years.

21 Sunday  ~ Missionary of the Week: Jack Smith, Uganda (WorldVenture). Jack is rejoicing as another group of university students graduated with degrees as medical doctors.  Some of them are not only committed to physical healing, but also spiritual healing.
Birthday – N.T. Dellinger, Belize

22 Monday  ~ Our Ministry Team in North Africa. Pray for new ministry teams being trained to enter areas that, at present, have no Christian witness. Pray for our team as they encourage and plan with each associate.

23 Tuesday  ~  John and Eriko Houlette, Japan (WorldVenture). Please pray for the personal support needs that the Houlettes have.  A recent drop in their support pledges may affect their freedom to minister effectively.
MK Birthday–Jeweliann Houlette (age 16)

24 Wednesday  ~ John and Estera Vatran, Romania (WorldVenture). As construction of the new Mountain View Camp and Conference Center in Hateg is nearing completion, John and Estera are beginning to think of the furnishings that will be needed.  The short-term team that served in Romania in June would like to help raise funds for furnishing the rooms.  Look for our ministry table in November for more information and pray for Romania.

25 Thursday  ~ John and Linda Crone, Texas (Josh McDowell Ministry/CCC). John shares his excitement about the increasing response to the Gospel from Muslim countries. Thousands are eagerly reading the Gospel story and trusting Christ as God’s Son and their Savior.

26 Friday  ~ Steve and Carol Lyons, Tanzania (Ev. Free Mission). Steve and Carol ask us to continue praying that they may find teachers for the new school they built in Vingunguti.  The building has been completed and they need teachers who share their vision of evangelizing unreached tribes in the area.

27 Saturday  ~ Dick and Ivy Otto, Uganda/Ukiah (WV). Pray for Dick and Ivy, who are officially retired but still involved in ministry in Uganda as well as various ministries in the States.
