Missionaries of the Week Ken and Bola Taylor
Ken and Bola both became Christians in their mid-twenties at the height of their professional music careers. Bola was a jazz singer while Ken was a rising musical director and arranger. They began to share their musical talents in various Christian ministries. By 1997, they had raised their support and moved to Japan to serve in church planting and gospel music. Their third child, Victoria, was born that fall in Japan. The Taylor’s worked with John Houlette in the Toda church plant, which is now self-supporting. They have gone on to help with two other church plants. Several years ago, black gospel music became very popular in Japan and Ken began directing black gospel choirs. The singers are 80% non-Christian and the door to evangelism is wide open both to choir members and their friends who attend the concerts. Combined choirs numbering 500 voices are preparing for Christmas concerts. Ken is a great encourager to Japanese musicians, guiding them in creating original music with a Japanese style for Japanese audiences. He has also founded a Bible/Music Academy for training men and women for the ministry. Ken and Bola have three children: Anika, age 16, Luke, age 12, and Tori, age 9. 25 Sunday ~ Missionary of the Week: Sharon Vaughn, local (CityTeam). Pray for Sharon, who is a chaplain. She is blind and very active in ministry at shelters, prisons and Camp MayMac. Please pray for additional financial support needs. 26 Monday ~ Mark and Margaret Platt, Director Church Planting (CBA/NCN). Pray for Mark as he shepherds church planters in Northern California and Nevada. Under Mark’s leadership, more than 80 churches have been planted. Most of these churches are planted in newly developed subdivisions where there has been no church presence. 27 Tuesday ~ Our Ministry Team in the U.S. Northwest. The first student meetings of the fall were well-attended, as was a Labor Day weekend camping trip. These first meetings of new international students are fun and also valuable in speeding up the process of getting acquainted. Pray that team leaders may be able to find enough English conversation partners for all the new students who have asked for such a partnership. 28 Wednesday ~ Rich and Sue Lackey, England (AWM). Please pray for Rich and Sue, who have a solid base of supporters, but because of the weakening of the US dollar and increases in various fees and costs, they are seriously under-supported and have a deficit of $24,000. Rich is the key person in the technology and web base of AWM. Please pray that the Lord would supply the Lackeys' need so that they may remain on the field in ministry. Birthday – Joy Dellinger, Belize 29 Thursday ~ Eric and Beth Yodis, Ukraine (World Venture). Praise God that Eric and Beth have found additional financial partners to meet their personal support needs and were able to return to ministry in Ukraine at the end of October. Remember to pray for their daughter, Charity, who is a junior in high school at Black Forest Academy in Germany. 30 Friday ~ Global Media Outreach is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ that maintains 50 registered web sites, which will direct people to learn more about God, Jesus, salvation, etc. Pray for the 25,000 people around the world who voluntarily respond to spiritual inquiries from those who view these websites. 1 Saturday ~ Craig and Cynthia Davis Paris (WV) Praise God that Craig and Cynthia now have 93% of their financial need promised. Pray that they may be able to return to ministry in Paris within two months. |
