Missionaries of the Week

Ben and Tillie Yazzie

yazzie

Ben, who was raised on a Navajo Reservation, cherishes the culture and tradition of his people.  Tillie Redhouse grew up in a Christian home and was an elementary school teacher when she met Ben.  They were married in 1991.  For the past few years, Ben was dean and teacher at Indian Bible College in Flagstaff, Arizona.  He took a sabbatical a few years ago and helped plant a Navajo church, Native Harvest.  The church is doing well and leadership has now been transferred to local leaders.

Ben and Tillie have moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they want to plant churches and evangelize other Native American tribes in addition to the Navajo.  Pray for them as they seek to make friendships and be accepted in the local villages.  Some of the leaders on the reservations are hostile to Christianity and have sometimes forced new Christians to leave the reservation.

The Yazzie’s have two children, Renata, age 14, and Rachel, age 9.  Tillie had been home schooling the girls, but she is now teaching in a school for native American children in Albuquerque. Please pray especially for Renata who is now attending a Mid High public school with 2000 students.  Rachel continues doing well in a smaller school.
